2022 Harley-Davidson Road Glide

The 2022 Harley-Davidson Road Glide continues a long tradition as one of the best touring bikes in America. This tradition started in the late 1990s when the Road Glide replaced the Tour Glide, a bike famed for its rubber-mounted 82 cubic-inch Shovelhead engine. The Road Glide built on the Tour Glide’s success and introduced riders to a more capable V-twin engine and next-level comfort. This combination became the Road Glide’s calling card, with the 2022 model celebrating the legendary cruiser’s rich heritage with a modern twist.

Designed to rival the Indian Challenger, the 2022 Road Glide has its own rival in the Harley-Davidson lineup, and that’s the Street Glide. Although both are Grand American Touring bikes, the models differentiate themselves by their fairings. The Street Glide features a fork-mounted batwing fairing, while the Road Glide’s signature frame-mounted sharknose fairing is designed for longer hauls since it more readily carries the weight of the wind and turbulence. Naturally, most veteran riders have a preference, which has allowed the Road Glide and Street Glide to coexist for decades. But what else distinguishes the 2022 Road Glide?

Beyond the Road Glide’s sharknose fairing, Harley-Davidson goes to great lengths to ensure the legendary cruiser offers the best ride possible, whether you’re in the saddle or the passenger seat. Harley-Davidson accomplishes this feat by adding functional design components to the bike and a host of standard features that range from a premium suspension with a hand-adjustable rear preload to an expansive color touchscreen display and cushioned passenger seat with floorboards. Even more impressive is that these standard features don’t send the Road Glide’s starting price sky-high, with Harley-Davidson keeping the bike affordable and ensuring you have more money in your pocket for your next adventure.

Design and Specs

Designed for Long-Distance Rides

As a Grand American Touring bike, the 2022 Road Glide is designed for long-distance rides and provides everything you need for your next adventure. Its 64-inch wheelbase gives the bike a longer platform, accounting for its overall length of 95.7 inches. Coincidentally, its large footprint and expansive list of standard features are also why the Road Glide is one of the heaviest models in the Harley-Davidson lineup, with a wet weight of 855 lbs. This weight accounts for a full tank of gas (six gallons) and all fluids, including 5.2 quarts of oil.

The Road Glide’s heavier weight makes it ideal for long trips at higher speeds, while its Showa 49mm dual bending valve shocks enhance its performance. The frame-mounted sharknose fairing lets the frame absorb the wind and turbulence to reduce interference for the driver, while the upright seating position optimizes comfort and overall control.

Built for Anything

Harley-Davidson extends this comfort to the rear, adding a cushioned passenger seat and floorboards so that your passenger enjoys the ride as well. Riding two-up on the Road Glide is easy with the hand-adjustable preload rear suspension. You can easily adjust the suspension based on your situation. For example, you can modify it for riding two-up or longer solo trips when taking advantage of the available 2.3 cu.ft. of cargo space in the saddlebags.

While these features work behind the scenes, the Road Glide offers many signature design elements that reflect the Harley-Davidson brand. The Enforcer II cast aluminum wheels and Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series tires ground the bike. At the same time, powerful dual Daymaker LED headlamps give the front of the Road Glide a distinct aesthetic and optimize your visibility. Harley-Davidson takes this aesthetic further with three color options that include Reef Blue, White Sand Pearl, and the iconic Vivid Black.

Performance and Handling

The Milwaukee-Eight 107

The 2022 Road Glide stays true to its Harley-Davidson roots and comes equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-twin engine that was first introduced in 2017. Hearing the Road Glide’s engine eliminates any question that the new V-twin lives up to the brand’s signature rumble. The powerplant relies on precision oil-cooled cylinder heads that improve efficiency and ride quality while delivering an iconic rumble, faster throttle response, and more torque.

As far as numbers, the Milwaukee-Eight 107 proves its capability by churning out 93 hp and 111 lb-ft of torque. The result is a surge of low-end torque that ensures the Road Glide reaches its peak performance without blasting through the entire RPM range. In short, you can ride at highway speeds without repeatedly downshifting, allowing you to confidently enjoy the ride and push the bike to its limits.

Reliable Braking

Beyond its effortless ability to travel at high speeds, the Road Glide is also renowned for its braking performance. Stopping power is critical in any bike, especially a bagger laden with a passenger and gear. Harley-Davidson recognizes as much and outfits the Road glide with reflex Linked Brembo brakes with an optional anti-lock braking system.

The setup features dual 11.8-inch floating rotors in the front and a single 11.8-inch fixed rotor in the rear with four-piston calipers in the front and back. This design gives the rider more control when braking in a straight line, with the front brake offering enough bite with a gentle grab of the lever to bring the bike to a controlled stop. In addition, since the anti-lock braking system works independently of the front and rear brakes, it prevents uncontrolled wheel lock in situations where emergency braking is necessary.

Features and Tech

Stay Comfortable and Connected

As a touring bike, the 2022 Road Glide is designed for long-distance travel, where comfort is a priority. The Road Glide lives up to its reputation as a Grand American Touring bike by offering an extensive suite of features and technology that keep you and your passenger comfortable, connected, and informed. These features range from a center touchscreen display and infotainment system to an array of rider safety enhancements.

The 2022 Road Glide puts vital information at a glance via an analog speedometer, analog tachometer, and smaller fuel gauge and temperature displays that are easy to read. Harley-Davidson also adds an intuitive touchscreen display designed to withstand the elements without hindering visibility in bright conditions. The display features Bluetooth, hands-free smartphone connectivity, text-to-speech, voice recognition, music streaming, trip data, rider modes, and more.

Enjoying these features is easier with the Road Glide’s Boom! Box 4.3 infotainment system that outfits the bike with two 5.25-inch speakers. The system delivers a remarkable entertainment experience, whether listening to the radio or using the USB connection to stream music from your smartphone. You can even take advantage of the bike’s standard SiriusXM presets.

Rider Safety Enhancements

Apart from keeping you informed and connected, the 2022 Road Glide also offers a suite of rider safety enhancements that optimize your time in the saddle. These optional features work behind the scenes to improve your ride, whether you’re navigating your daily commute or setting out on a cross-country road trip with friends. The suite of enhancements equips the Road Glide with upgrades like an anti-lock brake system, hill hold control, and tire pressure monitoring system.
